Color Pigment
How do you wash pigment-dyed jeans without washing out the color?
I have blue jeans that have a nice pigment tint to them, but when washing previous pairs they've completely lost their pigment. I've heard that if you wash them inside out it won't wash out the color, but I don't see how that makes any sense! 
Anyone know a way other than just dry-cleaning?
Put a cup of regular table salt in your washer with the jeans. Let them soak a couple hours if you can. If you do this, it will set the dye in the fabric, and the color will last a lot longer. I think the idea of turning them inside out helps too, because if any dye escapes the front of the fabric, it will be trapped inside and stick itself back on, maybe? But I know for sure about the salt thing -- we've done this since our hippie days. I still do this to my husband's jeans and denim shirts.
Back in "the day" (I'm 55), you had to add salt to the rinse when you dyed something with Rit Dye -- I don't know if that's still true, because I haven't bought dye for 150 years.
Anyway, this will "set" the color in most anything you can wash -- if you're worried about something fading, do this first! I'll guarantee ya!!! Have fun in those jeans!!!
